OUR STORY

Over the course of decades in logistics, our team has been involved in the transportation of a vast variety of cargoes including oil rigs, fresh fruit, emergency relief supplies, project cargoes, consumer goods, vehicles and more. We have built supply-chains in the developing world where there have been none before.

To overcome challenges we have modified ships, deployed dedicated assets including trucks and material handling equipment and spent a lot of time in the field to ensure successful outcomes. Through SLG, we offer our accumulated knowledge to assist shippers who need to go to the ends of the earth, and any stops before then.

MEET OUR PRESIDENT

As far back as I can remember, I have been fascinated by ships. As a kid I built fleets from scrap wood in my grandfather’s cellar. Later, before I could drive, I took the train to the piers to watch freighters load and discharge cargo. I shipped out at the age of 18 aboard the S.S. Jean Lykes bound for the Mediterranean and the Soviet Union…

Later I worked at United States Lines, where the pioneer of containerization, Malcolm McLean was building the world’s largest ships. Each chapter has been richer and more exciting.

Over the years I have met amazing people from all over the world and developed a knack for solving transportation challenges.

To get more cargo up the river to Paraguay I re-rigged the stowage patterns on the vessels. When there was no reliable transport in a country devastated by war, I modified surplus army trucks and shipped them along with the food they were to deliver and taught nationals how to drive them.

Having established liner service to the Amazon and built supply-chains into the Great Rift Valley, and a lot of other adventures along the way, I have marshaled a lifetime of experience to form the Special Logistics Group with a mission to provide expert logistics services with a focus on challenging destinations.
